E3 2021 | River City Girls 2 and River City Girls Zero Announced!
During LRG3 2021, Limited Run Games made a lot of announcements of new games and physical editions of classics. During the presentation, WayForward revealed updates on the River City Girls franchise. One of the biggest announcements was the reveal of River City Girls 2, which will be coming to PC and consoles next year. The sequel promises new playable characters alongside Misako and Kyoko, and their boyfriends Kunio and Riki. While not much was shown, the new characters hinted seems to be Double Dragon’s Marian and River City Ransom: Underground’s Provie. There was also confirmation that the sequel would feature online 2-player co-op.
Not wanting to slow down the announcements, WayForward also announced River City Girls Zero. 1994’s Super Famicom game, Shin Nekketsu Koha: Kunio-tachi no Banka, is finally getting a localization. The localization will retain the original 16-bit graphics, but will add a new anime opening, manga style cutscenes, and a new song from Megan MdDuffee. This one will arrive much sooner, as it will be available on Nintendo Switch later this year.
Finally, it was also revealed that the original River City Girls would be released for PlayStation 5. Expect improved load times and potentially additional features. The game will be available physically thanks to Limited Run Games, who will be producing standard and collector’s editions. Limited Run Games will also be producing physical copies of River City Girls 2 and River City Girls Zero.
