Super Mario Party Gets Online Update Over Two Years After Launch

Back in October 2018, Super Mario Party launched on the Nintendo Switch, bringing the iconic party franchise to Nintendo’s popular console. The game was always a big seller, though some were hesitant due to a lack of online modes. Super Mario Party launched with the Mariothon mode, which gave players an online mode in the series for the first time. This let players enjoy several of the mini-games online in a series of rounds. Now, over two years after launch, Nintendo has updated the game to have online multiplayer for the main Mario Party mode, as well as Partner Party. The Mariothon mode now also selects from a pool of 70 of the 80 mini-games.

Players can play either with one or two players on one single Switch and hop online with up to three others. This is good for those still stuck at home during the pandemic. While this update may come off as a little random, it likely may be to test the waters for a potential sequel. If Nintendo sees good data from this, we may see this implemented in the next installment from the beginning. It may also determine the mini-game selection, as ten of the mini-games are not available for online play.

What do you think? Will you jump back into Super Mario Party now that is has online play in the main mode? Let us know in the comments below!
