During the Square Enix Presents event, Project Athia has surfaced once again. This is the first update for the game since last June during its initial reveal. Now, Square Enix has revealed the official title for the game: Forspoken. This is the debut title from the new Square Enix studio, Luminous Productions. Their goal is to deliver a gaming experience like never before, fusing together the latest technology with creativity. You can check out the official announcement trailer below.
Coming to PlayStation 5 and PC, Forspoken puts players in the role of Frey Holland, played by Ella Balinska. Frey is a normal woman that suddenly finds herself in the fantasy realm of Athia. To survive, she must embrace magical powers to get her through the dangers she will face. Players will have to explore the unknown region of Athia to unravel the mysteries within. The game is targeting a 2022 release and Luminous Productions claims that it will utilize the full power of the PlayStation 5 hardware. While the game is designed for the PlayStation 5, the PC version will be developed simultaneously.
“As the first video game I’ve worked on, and growing up a huge fan of video games myself, it’s remarkable to see the incredible world and story of Forspoken come together, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy,” said Balinska. “Frey as a character is real, she’s raw, she’s a girl who lost her way—both figuratively and literally—and is a character I immediately connected with, as I feel many people around the world will too when they set off on this adventure.”
