Watch Life Flash Before You In Before Your Eyes

In a new press release, Goodbyeworld Games, in association with Skybound Games and RYOT Studio, have announced their new game coming to PC via Steam. Before Your Eyes is an innovative narrative game that players will experience by blinking in real life. Using your webcam, the game will be able to detect when the player blinks as life flashes before their eyes. Every time they blink, time will move forward and reveal a bit more of the story. The game will release on April 8th, 2021, and those looking forward to it can wishlist it here. Check out the announcement trailer below.

The original game came from Goodbyeworld Games’ founger Will Hellwarth. Titled Close Your, the game received the Game Developers Choice award at Indicade in 2014. It also won the Student Award at the Independent Game Awards in 2015. Now, it’s getting ready to release to the world with a brand new vision; literally. Before Your Eyes puts players on an emotional journey as you reflect on a life once lived. As a ferryman shepherds your soul to the afterlife, you’ll discover the past of the protagonist through their literal eyes. Players will experience memories fading and disappearing as they immerse themselves in this thought-provoking story.

“We’ve been working on this game since college—for the better part of a decade—so it’s really the definition of a labor of love,” said Game Director and Composer, Oliver Lewin. Writer and Creative Director Graham Parkes also had this to say about the game: “We really can’t wait to get this into the hands of players, so they can finally experience this completely new way of using tech to tell human stories. It’s really something you have to experience firsthand.”

When talking about the game, Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe had this to day: “GoodbyeWorld Games has made a unique and unforgettable experience with Before Your Eyes. While keeping our eyes open can help us see, closing them may at times reveal what we hide from ourselves, and I love how the game conveys this. Most of us at Skybound teared up while playing the game and are honored to help this incredibly creative team deliver such an artistic and relatable game.”
