DOTA is Getting an Anime Series… No, Seriously
A strange announcement today that nobody likely saw coming, Netflix has announced a new anime based on… Valve’s DOTA 2. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will be an eight episode mini-series, and it’s coming really soon. All eight episodes will premiere on Netflix on March 25th. The success of DOTA 2 is no surprise, but nobody likely saw an anime coming. As strange as it is, it’s an awesome announcement and it’ll be great for fans to see a new perspective on the lore. You can view the announcement trailer below.
The series seems to combine hand-drawn animation and 3D animation with anime inspired visuals. It will tell the story of Davion, the Dragon Knight as he cleanses the earth of the Scourge. Encountering an ancient Eldwurm and the Princess Mirana, he’ll soon take part in a much bigger event. Ashley Edward Miller (X-Men: First Class, Black Sails) is the series Showrunner and Executive Producer. Studio MIR (The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender) is the house responsible for the animation. Finally, Ryu Ki Hyun (Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra) serves as Co-Executive Producer.
Miller had this to say about the series: “Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters. The cinematic animation, acting and music are simply next level and I’m grateful to Valve for supporting our creative ambitions.”
