Nintendo and Koei Tecmo games surprised fans today by announcing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a hack and slash game which is a sequel to the original Hyrule Warriors and a prequel toThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It is set a hundred years before the events of the game where players can experience the great calamity that occurred prior to the events of Breath of the Wild and will include “a robust story that depicts the events, relationships and dramatic moments of the Great Calamity in captivating detail.”
The game was announced alongside a new trailer showing off its story. Players will be fighting multiple waves of enemies in a similar fashion to the Dynasty Warriors games across familiar locations in Hyrule, and will “solve environmental puzzles, unlock weapons and skills, craft materials, visit shops to obtain items and use the power of the Sheikah Slate.” The game will also have multiple playable characters such as Link, Zelda, Urbosa, Daruk, Mipha, and Revali and will have a similar art style to Breath of the Wild.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is slated to launch on November 20th on Nintendo Switch. In regards to the Breath of the wild sequel, however, producer Eiji Aonuma says, “You’ll have to wait a bit longer.”
