During PlayStation’s State of Play Broadcast, Thekla Inc announced that Braid, the classic indie game that launched back in 2008 will be reimagined and updated for modern consoles titled Braid Anniversary Edition.
The game will feature a variety of changes and updates to the original release including:
Improved sound and new mixes and variants of the soundtrack by Mart in Stig Andersen (Control, Inside) and Hans Christian Kock
Hand-repainted graphics by David Hellman
All-new animations for smoother in-game motion
Ability to switch back and forth between the old and new Braid on the fly
In addition to the visual and gameplay improvements, Braid Anniversary Edition will also include an in-depth developer commentary explaining both minor and major details of the game and promises to be a good resource for those interested in game development.
Game designer Jonathan Blow wrote on the game’s official website regarding the commentary:
“I want to say stuff that really gets to the heart of why things are the way they are, rather than just saying some surface stuff for the sake of doing commentary, as often happens. I want to cover all subjects involved in the game — art, programming, game design, level design, history of independent games, whatever else — and if you want a high-level, short explanation, you can get that, but if you want a 20-minute-long explanation of why a particular puzzle is the way it is, you can get that too.”
Braid Anniversary Edition will launch early 2021 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux.
