Spider-Man to be a PlayStation Exclusive Character In Marvel’s Avengers
Square Enix recently announced that the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game, set to arrive next month, will include a playable Spider-Man character exclusive for PlayStation players. He will also release after the game’s launch in 2021 at no additional cost. The web-slinger will reportedly release as part of an in-game event exclusive to the PS4/PS5. Spider-Man also seems to be a permanent PlayStation exclusive, and not a timed one.
Jeff Adams, Associate Art Director at Crystal Dynamics, had this to say regarding the announcement:
“It’s never been a better time to be a spider-fan! The team at Crystal Dynamics, along with our partners, are overjoyed that we get to be a part of this hero’s gaming journey. We can’t wait for you to add Spider-Man to your Marvel’s Avengers roster in early 2021, and as we’ve promised before, he will be available at no additional cost to owners of the base game, exclusively on PlayStation.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you enjoy playing Marvel’s Avengers when it launches on PS4 on September 4, 2020, and comes to PS5 later this holiday.”
Due to the success Sony had with the popular Insomniac game, the inclusion of Spider-Man in the Avengers roster of heroes is no surprise. The upcoming Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 exclusive also contributes to this. With that in mind, the decision to make the character a PlayStation exclusive has been received poorly, as expected. Understandably so too, as the act of closing off content to console-specific players has slowly become the norm. Needless to say, it is quite frustrating.
Marvel’s Avengers is slated to release on September 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Next-generation console versions will also be released later this year.
