2K Announces Partnership with NFLPA

2K has announced an official partnership with OneTeam and the NFL Players Association, per a press release sent on Thursday. The announcement comes with the reveal that 2K is working on multiple games releasing in 2021 and 2022. These games are currently being labeled by 2K as “non-simulation football game experiences”. This partnership allows 2K rights to the names, numbers, images and likenesses for over 2,000 current NFL players.

“We’re thrilled to be working with the NFLPA and OneTeam to bring the biggest and best stars in the football games to the games we’ll be working on,” says 2K President David Ismailer.

The last time we got a 2K football game was when Sega owned the rights with NFL 2K5. While the prospect of getting a new 2K installment after all these years seems exciting, don’t expect an overnight takeover of EA’s Madden franchise. Rather, because 2K has worked out a deal with only the NFLPA and labeled their projects as non-simulation experiences, I would expect to see something more along the lines of the NFL Street series from EA. The games are much more likely to be something that will provide more of an arcade experience for players.

The move comes as 2K tries to expand itself in the sports video game category, with its brand new golf franchise “PGA Tour 2K21” releasing on August 21. What do you think? Are you excited to see what 2K delivers with their football titles? Let us know in the comments below.
