After teasing that something was coming, Japanese developer Rabbit & Bear Studios officially announced Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes today. A spiritual successor to the brilliant Suikoden series, Eiyuden will be launching on Kickstarter on July 27th. Led by Suikoden series veterans, the game isn’t just an attempt to recapture the magic of the JRPG glory days. It’s an attempt to improve and modernize it. Even though there’s just a handful of images and a gameplay teaser, it looks like they’ll achieve that attempt.
Details on the company’s website are limited, but according to an article from Gematsu, Eiyuden will be seeking $500,000 to fund the game for PC. There will also be a single stretch goal for next-gen consoles, but that amount is currently unknown. We’ll have to wait a few more days for clarifying and further details, but this is great news for fans of the genre. Personally, Suikoden 2 is one of my all-time favorite games, so I’m ecstatic.
