Companions Confirmed in New Paper Mario: The Origami King Trailer
For a while now, the Paper Mario series has been lacking in companions. It looks like Paper Mario: The Origami King is looking to slightly rectify that when it launches on Switch in July. While it won’t be exactly like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door or the original title, various companions will help out in battle. Some of these companions range from an amnesiac Bob-omb, a Toad professor, Kamek the Magikoopa, and even Mario’s mortal enemy, Bowser. Collecting various hidden Toads throughout the adventure will also give Mario a small army to assist in battles. Mario will also be joined by Olivia, the sister to the Origami King, King Olly. Check out the trailer below.
Of course, companions aren’t the only thing we see in the new trailer. Outside of battle, Mario will find hidden items, repair holes with confetti, play mini-games, and more. It seems that variety is going to be king in Paper Mario: The Origami King. Mario will drive vehicles, compete on a game show, steer through river rapids, and even blast enemies out of the air with Bob-omb cannons. All of this and more awaits on Mario’s quest to untie streamers entrapping Peach’s castle.
The game offers new combat with the ring-battle system. Enemies will be placed on a ring grid, and players will have to spin and slide enemies to line them up for strategic attacks. This of course works its way into the boss battles against the Legion of Stationary, new foes seeking to pose a challenge. This includes bosses like Colored Pencils, Rubber Band, and even Tape, all enemies to paper. Players will use the ring system to create a path for Mario to take to deliver a solid attack to the foes. Expose their weaknesses and you can do devastating damage.
Paper Mario: The Origami King is releasing exclusively to the Nintendo Switch on July 17th. Are you looking forward to the new game? Let us know in the comments below!
