Resident Evil Village is Bringing the Horror to the Next Generation

Announced during the PlayStation 5 digital event, the next installment of the iconic Resident Evil franchise is coming, continuing the story of Resident Evil VII. Titled Resident Evil Village (the “Village” stylized to represent the roman numeral VIII), the game takes place several years after Resident Evil VII. Ethan Winters and his wife move to a new location before stumbling onto a new nightmare in the titular village. Series veteran Chris Redfield returns as well, though perhaps not in a way that Ethan was hoping for. Check out the trailer below to see what we mean.

As seen in the trailer, Resident Evil Village continues the first-person gameplay started in Resident Evil VII. The new setting shows off snowy mountain tops, creepy villages and rustic buildings. Utilizing Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, this will be the most visually eerie atmosphere to date. The village in question was once peaceful, but Ethan seeks to uncover what mysterious event changed this. The answer may be… werewolves! Just as early tips have stated, werewolf-like enemies are making an appearance in the Resident Evil series for the first time. For some new details on the game, check out the Special Developer message below.

The game gives off a Resident Evil 4 vibe with the setting, and may pay homage to the game. Players will likely have many puzzles and perils in their way, but to what extent is yet to be seen. You can see some of what the game has to offer in the gallery below.

What secrets await in Resident Evil Village? We’ll know more as we get closer to its release next year. Resident Evil Village is currently slated for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam.
