EVO 2020 Lineup Announced!

The EVO 2020 official lineup has been announced by the Evolution Championship Series. Many titles return, all with updates since last year. Those titles include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Samurai Shodown, SoulCalibur VI, and Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r]. In addition to the returning titles, there is one new title with Granblue Fantasy Versus. Perhaps most surprising is the long awaited return of a classic, as Marvel vs. Capcom 2 returns to EVO.

This lineup is a bit surprising, considering the removal of Mortal Kombat 11. The game continues to get new content like the others, but it seems it couldn’t make the cut at EVO 2020. BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle was also removed, most likely due to the replacement of another Arc System Works fighter. The newest title, Granblue Fantasy Versus, releases in the next month or so, with the Japanese release this Thursday and the North American release on March 3rd.

With Marvel vs. Capcom 2 returning, it may be the most interesting part of the show. Presented as an 8 player invitational tournament, it won’t be following the same rules as the other event games. Celebrating the game’s 20th anniversary, the “20ournament of Champions” will include four of the EVO title holders from past events. Since it’s a fan favorite, it will likely be a popular part of the show, especially seeing the returning title holders compete. Either way, we expect to see a lot of Magneto, Storm, and Sentinel during this competition.

While not an official game of the event, the Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid League will also have it’s season finale at EVO.

All games at the event will be using the PlayStation 4 versions except for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Switch, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on Dreamcast. EVO 2020 will take place between July 31st and August 2nd in it’s usual location of Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV. Registration for the event is open now on the official EVO website, so if you plan on taking part, feel free to sign up. Are you excited for EVO 2020? Let us know in the comments below!
