Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Announced, Gill Incoming
During the Capcom Pro Tour 2019 North America Regional Finals, Capcom made a big announcement. Street Fighter V: Champion Edition is coming, including all 34 stages, 40 characters (currently 38), and over 200 costumes. In addition, all characters will be given a second V-Skill to change up the balance. This edition will launch for $29.99 and will be available on February 14th, 2020. As mentioned, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition will include over 200 costumes, but none of them will be the Fighting Chance, Capcom Pro Tour, or Red Bull costumes. Either way, it’s still a ton of content for one great price. Check out the announcement trailer below.
Of course, Capcom wanted to spice up this announcement, so they had one more reveal. As mentioned before, there are currently 38 characters on the roster, but Street Fighter V: Champion Edition will include 40. During the announcement, one of the extra two characters was revealed. Street Fighter III’s Gill will be a part of the roster next month in December. Gill was the boss character of Street Fighter III and he was heavily teased in the Street Fighter V story mode, A Shadow Falls. The addition of his assistant Kolin to the roster was also a big tease. Check out Gill’s reveal trailer below.
Gill looks just as formidable as he was in Street Fighter III. Using both the elements of ice and fire, this angelic fighter will certainly be a big addition to the roster. For Darkstalkers fans, he’ll even have a Pyron costume as an purchasable option. Gill will launch alongside a new stage, Sun Chase Moon, which perfectly resonates with the character. Check out some of his screenshots below.
With Gill being the 39th fighter, that means we have one more mystery fighter. My money is on Rose, as Capcom has been heavily teasing her, especially with the inclusion of Menat. Of course, it could also be a brand new character. We’ll surely know more as we get closer to the release of Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. As a reminder, players can purchase most of this content with earned Fight Money. They do however have the option to purchase the $24.99 Upgrade Kit now, which will unlock all currently available content.
