Games with Gold and PlayStation Plus for August 2019 Lineup

August 2019 brings new games to both Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus. Both services include a unique variety of games for both subscriptions.

On the Xbox front, there will be two main Xbox One games available: Gears of War 4 (August 1st-31st) and Forza Motorspot 6 (August 16th-September 15th). Gears of War 4 takes place after the original trilogy starring Marcus Fenix’s son, JD. He and a ragtag group of new heroes must uncover a looming threat. In addition to an enjoyable campaign, there’s a very robust multiplayer with a variety of modes like Deathmatch and Horde. Gears is definitely a must for Xbox Live Gold owners this month.

Forza Motorsport 6 is another installment in the now 14-year old franchise. While the series is known for its realistic racing simulation, it’s also very beginner friendly thanks to its drive-assist feature. While not as advanced as its sequel or intense like the Horizon series, 6 is still a worthwhile racing game.

The two classic games available on Xbox are Torchlight (August 1st-15th) and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (August 16th-31st). Torchlight is a top-down dungeon crawler in the vein of Diablo. Up to 4 players can join in this hack-and-slash fantasy adventure.  Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a vast departure for the series, taking more cues from games like God of War than any of its predecessors. That being said, it is a very capable action game for those who don’t mind the tone shift.

After the July switcheroo of PES with Detroit: Become Human, it looks like Sony is trying to ensure its PS+ game for the month will please more audiences. Sniper Elite 4 is a part of a long-running series in which the goal is not going guns ablazing. Instead, you’ll methodically study your terrain, plan your shot, and then of course, the glorious frag at the end. For those who look for a different kind of shooting game, they might be in for quite the pleasant surprise.

The other game is Wipeout Omega Collection. This collection includes Wipeout HD, Wipeout HD Fury and Wipeout 2048 all enhanced on PS4 and PS4 Pro. The futuristic racer is famous for its psychedelic-neon visuals, variety of power-ups, and some of the best techno music in gaming. Not only is there a lot of content, but if you own a Playstation VR, it supports that as well!

So what games excite you more? Let us know in the comments which system has a better lineup!
