EA and Respawn Entertainment Unveil Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
This past weekend at the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, Illinois, fans received some big reveals. Along with the desperately awaited trailer and title for Star Wars Episode IX, we finally got new details on the next game adaptation of the Star Wars franchise: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. EA has assigned Respawn Entertainment (developers of Apex Legends, Titanfall) to bring us a new, single-player Star Wars Adventure. There will have no microtransactions and it will be a story-driven experience.
The game will take place after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and follow a Padawan known as Cal Kestis (played by Cameron Monaghan) in his fight following Order 66 and the Jedi genocide. Cal must reclaim his memories of the past and master the use of the Force and the iconic lightsaber. He’ll do this while avoiding the tyranny of the Empire and their imposing Inquisitors. Seeing a new single-player game in the Star Wars universe is an exciting prospect.
“Many Star Wars fans, ourselves included, are really interested in the dark times, so we wanted to explore that mysterious, dangerous period,” said Stig Asmussen, the Game Director at Respawn Entertainment. “The team at Lucasfilm have been amazing collaborators, helping us explore and further develop this part of the timeline where the Empire is at the height of its power and any remaining Jedi are in hiding. Within this narrative, we’ve crafted a game with intense, yet thoughtful and fun melee combat using the lightsaber and Force powers, allowing anyone to fulfill their Jedi fantasy.”
“When Respawn approached us with the idea for this game, we were immediately supportive. A single player, story-driven title in the Star Wars universe was exactly what we were looking for, and we know the fans have been eager for one, as well,” says Lucasfilm Story Group Director of Franchise Content & Strategy, Steve Blank. “Focusing on Cal stepping back into the shoes of a Jedi post Order 66 opens up a lot of gameplay opportunities and rich story threads to develop for this new character and his backstory,” continues Blank. This falls in line with what fans have wanted from EA, as story has always been a highly requested feature. Star Wars Battlefront received criticism for not having a campaign, and it was quickly rectified for the sequel.
Players will visit new locations in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, including Planet Bracca, where we’ll be introduced to Cal. We’ll meet new characters, including Cal’s mysterious companion Cere, and his loyal droid BD-1. Respawn also teases characters that fans already know will show up in the story. Forced into hiding, Cal will go on the run when his force powers are discovered. Perhaps the most notable of his pursuers is the deadly Inquisitor, the Second Sister. She will be joined be an elite squadron of brand new Purge Troopers.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be available on November 15th, 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Feel free to check out the reveal trailer below.
