Stardock today revealed that the first expansion in their popular 4X space strategy game, Galactic Civilizations III, is in development and set to release next month. This expansion, known as Mercenaries, is set to add in a new campaign, Galactic Bazaars, new races, and even the ability to recruit elite units featuring special abilities, to name a few.
The Intergalactic Bazaars can be utilized to hire mercenaries to help you expand across the galaxy. Each map features multiple Bazaars, as well as 70 unique mercenary ships for you to uncover.
Paul Boyer, Lead Designer of the game, commented, stating, “Each mercenary sets their own hiring price in terms of money and resource. Because there are a finite number of mercenaries, each civilization is competing for their services. When one is hired by one civilization, it is no longer available to the others.”
In addition, there will be two new factions in this expansion. These are the Arceans, an ancient and honorable civilization of warriors, and the Torians, an aquatic species attempt to escape the slavery of the Drengin. Both will feature new traits, abilities, and tech trees, with the Torians being the subject of the new campaign. Here is a quick description of the campaign, as shown on the official press release:
The campaign for Galactic Civilizations III: Mercenaries centers on the peaceful Torian race who have long been enslaved and farmed for their meat by the cruel Drengin. To free the Torians, players will need to explore and discover mercenaries, then hire them to aid in escaping from their oppressors. Players will strive to liberate the Torians and help them rebuild their shattered civilization while staying out of reach of the Drengin.
In addition to this new expansion, there will be a free update to the base game that improves match results, AI, visuals, and balance.
What do you think of the new expansion, from what we’ve heard?
