Dirty Bomb receives largest update yet

containment war

Splash Damage’s free-to-play online shooter, Dirty Bomb, will receive its biggest update on Wednesday, known as Containment War.

This update offers up quite a bit of new content for players to enjoy, such as a Molotov-wielding Mercenary who is equipped to resupply allies with a deployable ammo station, a new Execution mode, and new maps, including the eagerly anticipated Dome map for Objective and Stopwatch. Players can also collect limited-edition Containment War Loadout Cards, and those who decide to join the action between October 28, 2015 and November 4, 2015, will be able to permanently unlock the recently released medic Phoenix for free.

Execution Mode is a single-life mode that features two new maps known as Overground and Market. During this mode, players will battle it out through twelve rounds, attempting to either eliminate the opposing team or destroy a section of the Containment Shield by planting a bomb.

This update’s new Mercenary brings the total up to 17, and here are some of the most recently added Mercenaries, as shown on the official press release:

Stoker: A disruptive force on the battleground, Stoker can close down chokepoints with Molotov grenades and resupply allies with a deployable ammo station.

Phoenix: An offensive-minded healer with self-revival and healing abilities enabled by nanite technology.

Phantom: A terrifying Recon Merc with a refractive armor suit that allows him to turn invisible in battle and close in for the kill with his Katana.

Red Eye: A medium range marksman who tactically uses smoke grenades and his infrared goggles to spot enemies on the field.

Sparks: A not-so traditional healer who comes equipped with a gun that can revive teammates and cause enemy damage from a distance.

The Loadout Cards provide special Containment War skins for both your characters and weapons, and will only be available for the 30 days following the update’s release. These cards can be obtained three ways: You have a 3% chance of getting a card with the CW Equipment Cases. Elite Cases boost the possibility to 10%, and finally, if you decide to purchase a bundle of 10 Elite Cases, you are guaranteed a Containment War Loadout Card.

Containment War is the largest update since the Dirty Bomb Open Beta began, but the developers point out that new features and gameplay improvements have been continually added based on feedback from the community. Some of these include purchasing up to Bronze load-out cards with in-game currency, improved matchmaking, private matches, surrender and restart functionality, a report-a-player feature, and a new anti-cheat system.

Neil Alphonso, lead designer on Dirty Bomb, stated, “The love, the swearing, the passion, the rage… Dirty Bomb’s Open Beta phase has been emotional. But it’s this emotion from our players that tells us the fight for improvement is worth it, and why this is our biggest update yet. We’re grateful to everyone telling us what they love or what they’d like to see improved so far. In an expanding universe of team-based shooters, we’re committed to giving hardcore PC players something a bit different for years to come.”
