Recently the independent-minded console publishing brand of Marvelous USA, Inc, XSEED Games, announced that their upcoming RPG for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, will be launching with a special “Lionheart Edition”.

This special edition of the game will contain the full title as well as an art book featuring over 100 pages of art from this title and the sequel, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II, as well as a 1.5 inch pin that displays the emblem of the country of Erebonia. These items will be packaged in a custom collectible clamshell-type box that can also be utilized to house the sequel when it arrives in 2016, allowing collectors to store the duology in a single package.

Now for some actual game details, for those who are interested in the title. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel continues to build on Nihon Falcom’s acclaimed franchise, which Japanese gamers and importers know as Sen no Kiseki. XSEED states that the new title “Improves on the series’ formula and continues to deliver the same sort of expertly told narrative that fans have come to expect”.

Trails of Cold Steel takes place on the same continent as the fan-favorite Trails in the Sky and is the first game in the series to truly explore the Erebonian soil. It will allow you the chance to delve into the inner political conflicts of the powerful empire.

Trails of Cold Steel places you in the role of specially-selected elite military students during a time of great turmoil. You will be enjoying school life and bonding with your fellow students during your down time, and by doing so you’ll be able to gain new abilities that you can use against your foes. During battle, you’ll be able to utilize these special abilities in speedy, tactical turn-based combat created by the newly-developed “ARCUS” system.

The game’s standalone story will also delve into the expansive lore that has become synonymous with the series. It will be possible to unravel it on both PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3, thanks to the Cross-Save functionality that will be present to allow gamers to experience it both at home and on the go.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is currently scheduled to launch this holiday season on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in North America. The standard edition of the game has a suggested retail price of $39.99, while the Lionheart Edition will cost $10 more at $49.99 on both platforms.
