CD Projekt Red announced this week some new details for the first story expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, including the release date and a new preview video. You can check out the preview in the player below.

The Hearts of Stone Expansion will launch next month on October 13. According to CD Projekt Red, the expansion will feature over 10 hours of new story gameplay, along with new characters, powerful monsters, a unique romance path and a new storyline shaped by gamer choices. In Hearts of Stone, players will once again take the role of Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher has been hired ot take down a ruthless bandit captain named Olgierd von Everec, a man who apparently holds the power of immortality. The expansion will allow players to recruit a crew of break-in artists, spend a night partying with a ghost and also outsmart one of the most bizarre creatures Geralt has ever faced.

One of the other new features for the expansion is a new system called Runewords that will significantly affect gameplay. Each Runeword will impact a different aspect of in-game mechanics, and players will be able to experiment with various strategies and tactics. Based on the promotional materials and images released for the expansion, it appears the romance for the expansion will be none other than Shani. Shani previously appeared in the first Witcher game, but she did not make an appearance in The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings or in The Witcher 3’s main single-player campaign. However, she was mentioned in both games.

In addition to the digital release of the expansion, CD Projekt Red has also confirmed a limited edition boxed version of Hearts of Stone that will be available at select retailers worldwide for $19.99. The box contains a digital download code for the expansion, two crafted physical decks of Gwent, the card game set in the world of The Witcher, and a detailed manual explaining the rules. With two unique sets of cards, Monsters and Scoia’tael, players can now engage in some tactical Gwent combat outside of the actual game. Players who purchased the digital expansion pass for the game will be able to purchase the Gwent cards separately.
