The Shovel Knight Amiibo officially surfaces

Rumors have been circulating for a while now, and these past few days more and more reports seemed to prove the rumors to be highly likely. Yacht Club Games and Nintendo have finally revealed that Shovel Knight, the popular indie title, will be getting an Amiibo. The Shovel Knight himself will be compatible with both the Wii U version and the 3DS version of the game, utilizing different features for both.

On Wii U, the Shovel Knight Amiibo will unlock an exclusive co-op mode, giving the option to have a second player to the title for the first time. The 3DS version will get special challenge stages when the Amiibo is used. Both versions will also give the option to use customizable gear as well, though how that will work is yet to be seen.

Nintendo made the official announcement at their Nindie showcase in Seattle for PAX Prime, even giving attendees a chance to see the Amiibo up close and on display. When the Amiibo will release has yet to be revealed for North America, but UK retailer GAME is already holding pre-orders for the figure, suggesting a launch of November 27th. The physical release of Shovel Knight comes out October 13th in North America, so it may happen sometime around that date. Feel free to watch the announcement trailer, courtesy of Game Grumps, and let the Super Smash Bros. DLC speculation commence!
