One Upon Light arrives in October

one upon lightThis October, darkness will become your friend and light will become your foe. As a result, if you’re scared of the dark, you should quickly conquer your fears, as One Upon Light will be releasing digitally across Europe and US markets on the PlayStation 4.

Created by Singaporean developers at SUTD Game Lab, One Upon Light is set in a world where the conventional rules of light and shadow no longer apply. You will need to explore the ruined remains of the Aurora Science labs as you hunt for answers. Who are you? What happened in this place? Will things ever be the same again? As you seek out these answers, you’ll need to keep one rule in mind: Don’t go into the light.
Here are the key features, as presented by the official press release:

  • Top-down puzzle gameplay sees players using the unique properties of light and shadow to explore and overcome obstacles.
  • Use switches, blocks, carts, and other techniques to create shadows, blocking out the light that will otherwise end your adventure…
  • Employ the power of the Shadow Echo to ‘record’ shadows as they appear, then use them to progress even if the real shadow vanishes.
  • Visually charming and inspired by classic black and white cartoons, One Upon Light is a true test of skill, brains and photophobia.

This game marks another successful indie partnership for Rising Star Games. Managing Director of Rising Star Games, Martin Defries, commented on this fact, stating, “If there’s one thing our line-up of indie releases shows, it is that Rising Star Games loves original gaming. When One Upon Light was first shown to us, we knew immediately that it was a great fit for our style and we had a strong wish to bring it to games fans across the globe.”

Teo Chor Guan, Programme Director of SUTD Game Lab, also commented on the partnership, stating, “Since our exclusive Sony PlayStation 4 Asia release in October 2014, we have been looking for the right partner to bring this game to the West. Rising Star Games helps us fulfill our dream and we can’t wait for the world to embrace One Upon Light.
