Yesterday Relic Entertainment proved once again that they’re putting quite a bit of thought into their upcoming title, Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces, by releasing the first developer diary video for the game. This video, which can be found below, features lead game designer Quinn Duffy as he gives us a historical overview of the British during World War II, as well as how their unique character and military doctrine influenced both the design and development of Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces.
This game aims to be an authentic representation of the British army, bringing to life the iconic vehicles, weapons, and multicultural makeup of World War II’s longest standing Allied force. This portrayal even extends to how their own fighting style has been implemented into the game’s overall design.
The British Forces grants players a choice in how you will progress through the tech tree, featuring a military tactical doctrine balancing mobility and defense. One example you can follow has been termed the “Anvil approach” by the team at Relic, and is achieved by adopting powerful defensive positions by utilizing emplacements. Another example, called the “Hammer approach” by the team, is to use fast, hard-hitting units in order to dominate the battlefield.
You can, of course, also mix and match the two, as you will have freedom in how to progress through the trees. Will you adopt the defensive anvil, the aggressive hammer, or perhaps mix the best of both?
