Bioshock Remains an Important Franchise for Take-Two
During the Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has spoken about the Bioshock game series and about how important is for Take-Two this franchise.
Over 25 million units of Bioshock titles have been sold since the first game launched in 2007, while 11 million of those units came only from Bioshock Infinite’s sales. While revealing the number of units sold, Zelnick said that Bioshock is “a really important intellectual property for the company. And while I don’t have any announcements to make, yes, it’s a really important franchise for us.”
Does it mean we’ll get to see another Bioshock game? There are good chances for that to happen, but not in the near future. A new Bioshock title could sell a few million just because of its name, but to create a successful game you will need more than nostalgia, big daddies and little sisters.
The brain behind the franchise, Ken Levine, has moved on and he is trying to create something new after the disband of Irrational Games. And without him it is hard to create a new Bioshock game. But it will happen, not this year, maybe not in 2016, but sometime in the future we will get a new Bioshock title.
