Nintendo is reviving the Nintendo World Championships for E3
Using a humorous video starring Nintendo of America President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aimé, it was announced that Nintendo would be bringing back the Nintendo World Championships, and event that hasn’t been seen in 25 years. Partnering with Best Buy, Nintendo will hold qualifying rounds at Best Buy stores in major cities nationwide on May 30th. Winners from these stores will all win a trip to Los Angeles, CA, where they will compete with other competitors selected by Nintendo at the Nokia Theatre Live L.A. on June 14th.
It is unknown what Best Buy stores will be holding the qualifying rounds at this point, or even which games will be present for the event, but rest assured that it will likely take a skilled Nintendo gamer to reach the top and go to Los Angeles. Nintendo will leave the event open to the public to attend and watch the Championship games in Los Angeles, and will even live stream the event for everyone unable to attend. It is also unknown just what the grand prize will be for being crowned Nintendo World Champion, but to some, just being granted a trip to Los Angeles is its own reward.
