PlayStation Network is back online

PSN is up and running again

UPDATE 12/29: For those who are still unable to get online, here is a temporary fix.

The PlayStation Network is back online for both the PS3 and PS4.

The service had been down since Christmas after a DDoS attack that left the network unusable at the worst possible time, considering the holidays and the abundance of players who no doubt received PS4s as gifts (Xbox Live was down too but came back online sooner).

“PlayStation Network is back online. As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay,” said SCEA VP of Consumer Experience Catherine Jensen. “This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.”

While some users were able to get back online with their PS3s as of a day ago, the PS4 continued to have issues, particularly with error code NW-31194-8.  We’ve tried both consoles again this morning and have been able to get online with no issues.
