I’ve been following the Amiibo craze for quite a bit, of which I currently have 15 in my collection, including the elusive Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer. When Lucario was announced as a Toys “R” Us exclusive, I wasn’t very happy, because Lucario happens to be my main in the Super Smash Bros. games. Despite this, I preordered anyway, as did many other fans of the popular Pokemon, and I thought my purchase was locked in for the past couple weeks. Now I see that not only was my preorder cancelled last night, but several other consumers had their preorders cancelled as well, and not just Lucario, but several of the wave 3 Amiibo figures, and even some of wave 2. Its clear that the demand for these figures is high, what isn’t clear is why several of the retailers are having so many problems giving their customers some form of guarantee. Target, who recently revealed that the Rosalina & Luma Amiibo would be their exclusive figure, has also had baffling results with their preorder page, some people managing to lock one in within a 30 minute window of being open. These figures don’t come out until February of next year, but these stores are not making things look promising for the future of Amiibo. Hopefully wave 4 and all future waves get rid of the retailer exclusive stuff, because this is just one big mess now.
