Capcom’s Choice of Platforms for Street Fighter V is at Least Disappointing

As you might already know, a trailer for the upcoming Street Fighter V game was recently leaked on Youtube. And while Capcom managed to take the videos down pretty fast, everyone was able to see the troublesome ending of the trailer. Let me break the bad news, Street Fighter V is apparently only coming to PlayStation 4, and PC.

This leak is very disappointing for every Street Fighter fans out there, and let me tell you why. Street Fighter is one of the best established fighting game franchise, and it has been available for everyone, no matter of what platform they chosen to buy. Until now, the only requirement for you to play the game was to speak its own language: fighting.

We’ve seen this kind of deal made between developers and console manufacturers several times, one of the most recent one being the exclusivity deal on Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One. I surely understand when a new IP is only developed and launched on a single  console, but making a beloved franchise exclusive to X or Y is just… weak. Capcom, what about your fans on the Xbox’s side? What about those who can only afford one console, and they already bought an Xbox One over one year ago. Are you going to neglect a good chunk of your fanbase just for a quick buck?

Sincerely, I do hope that the trailer leaked today is somehow manufactured, and the exclusivity deal is in fact non-existent. This will not only upset a lot of people, but will also enable Microsoft and/or Sony to try again with this cheap tricks in the future. No matter how much we love your consoles, showing us that you don’t care about people less fortunate, who are not willing or simply can’t buy both console is a cheap trick that should be put to sleep asap.

This somehow angry post comes from someone who already own all consoles, so what reaction do you think the rest of the world will have? We’d love to hear your comments on this matter!

It makes sense ps4 is dominating worldwide the only challenge is somehow in the us only
Ps2 used to have exclusives left and right because it was dominating cant understand how people are quick to forget those facts.
Xbox had no chance from the start just look at last gen scenario and they still finished 3rd worldwide they cant win.

Always disappointing to see console exclusivity from a 3rd party for no reason… though the silver lining here is that it’s PS4 exclusive and not Xbox One exclusive. Thank Ryu for that!

I think people are overreacting a bit to much. Tomb Raider and Street Fighter will likely be coming to other consoles persepctivly

It couldn’t be because the VAST majority of fighting game enthusiasts are in Asia, and that the vast majority of them prefer the PS4, right? No, it has to be some kind of conspiracy. Get REAL. The reason Capcom chose the PS4 and not the Xbox was that the number of sales they could expect to gain from Xbox wasn’t worth the investment for a port!

I’ve been giving this a bit of thought and if you really think about it, I believe this may be the most significant Gaming related thing that PlayStation has done this generation. (well aside from E3 2013)

Consider the fighting game community. While not as big as the something like the FPS community, it has an incredibly dedicated fanbase and brings in people who will typically play for years and years. These are exactly the type of people you want on your console, people who will be constantly using it.

By getting Street Fighter V as a console exclusive, Sony has essentially ensured the entire current generation fighting game community will be gaming on PlayStation. Not only have the ensured that this game will sell on their console only, they have also ensured a constant revenue stream of people who will pay for PS+ and hundreds on pieces of content but most importantly, they have ensured that all mutiplat fighting games for the rest of the generation will always sell better on PlayStation, mark my words, Every. Single. One. Effectively about 2 million people will likely buy a PS4 simply over this title and Sony has essentially gauraenteed them to be customers for the rest of the generation.

What this comes down to, is that I would argue that this might be the single most important maneuver made this generation so far, even more than something like TitanFall being exclusive to Xbox and PC.
