Rayquaza joins Groudon and Kyogre for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
When Kyogre and Groudon battle, Rayquaza appears.
Today the Pokémon Company International and Nintendo were thrilled to announce that Rayquaza joins Groudon and Kyogre for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sappire. This strange Dragon and Flying type Pokémon is said to descend to the planet’s surface when Groudon and Kyogre clash. It is also somehow related to the mystery of Mega Evolution.
The two powerful Pokémon won’t be sitting back and letting Rayquaza steal the show, however. They will gain a special ability when they undergo Primal Reversion, which only the Primal versions of Groudon and Kyogre can possess.
Primal Groudon will gain an ability called Desolate Land. This ability will change the weather condition to extremely harsh sunlight, making it sot hat opponents cannot change the condition. This means that abilities like Rain Dance, Drizzle, and even Drought will all fail to activate.
Primal Kyogre’s ability is exactly the opposite. Called Primordial Sea, Primal Kyogre’s new ability will change the weather to an oppressive heavy rain. Just like Primal Groudon’s ability, once this has been activated, opponents will not be able to change the weather. In addition, Fire-type attacks become ineffective.
The two companies have also confirmed that Team Magma and Team Aqua will battle with Mega-Evolved Pokémon. One of these Pokémon, controlled by Maxie, is none other than Camerupt. During battle, he can evolve the Pokémon into Mega Camerupt, which gains the ability Sheer Force. This will raise the power of all abilities that have a secondary effect, although at the cost of said effect not being applied. In addition, most of Mega Camerupt’s stats increase uniformly, however his speed will fall drastically.
Archie from Team Aqua will utilize Sharpedo, the Water and Dark type Pokémon. During battle, he can evolve it into Mega Sharpedo, granting the Pokémon a stat boost, an increase in attack, and the Strong Jaw ability, which will raise the power of his bite attacks.
In addition to these two Mega Pokémon, one other was revealed. This Pokémon, in the hands of a timid young trainer called Wally, is none other than Gallade. Upon becoming Mega Gallade, it gains the ability Inner Focus, preventing it from flinching during battle. It also receives a boost in attack and speed.
