Pokémon fighting game Pokkén Tournament confirmed
The team behind the ever-popular Pokémon series revealed a special departure from the franchise’s roots this morning during a special Famitsu stream. This departure ventures into fighting game territory, as the special teaser shows:During a special Famitsu stream early this morning, the folks behind the mega-popular Pokémon series revealed a very special departure from the franchise’s roleplaying roots.
As you can see, the title appears to be a fighter, like Namco Bandai’s Tekken series, as the footage above shows off a battle between Lucario and Machamp. Near the end of the teaser, the former even powers up to its Mega form to presumably finish off the powerful Machamp.
Faithful readers will recall that last year trademarks popped up during the Pokémon Game show, although not much was revealed at the time. Even now, little information on the title is available, but our friends at Shoryuken confirmed that both of Namco’s lead Tekken and Soulcalibur producers, Katsuhiro Harada and Masaaki Hoshino, are personally involved in the development of the project.
More details are expected to be revealed during next week’s Famitsu, and the game is expected to hit Japanese arcades in 2015.
