Zero Suit Samus gets some familiar alternate costumes in new Super Smash Bros. games
Nintendo and Masahiro Sakurai just posted a new set of screenshots from the new Super Smash Bros. games for Wii U and 3DS showcasing new alternate costumes, this time giving the spotlight to Zero Suit Samus. Hardcore fans of the Metroid series will likely recognize these outfits as the ones worn by Samus in the ending of Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission, both stand out titles on the Game Boy Advance platform. If players managed to finish the game under certain conditions, they were rewarded with seeing the blond bounty hunter without her armor and in one of these more showy outfits. Sakurai posted some words about the costumes on Miiverse:
“Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this… That’s what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time. From the ending of Metroid: Zero Mission, here’s Samus in shorts!”
Interesting that he only mentions Metroid: Zero Mission, despite the fact that they took the time to get the correct details on the two versions to make sure they match the endings of both games. It was also mentioned that these would be available in both the Wii U and 3DS versions, showing a screen shot from the 3DS version of both outfits, but eagle-eyed fans of the Super Smash Bros. series may also notice that it shows the Brinstar stage from Super Smash Bros. Melee (and also Super Smash Bros. Brawl). Good to see a lot of love for the other outfits that these iconic characters have been in throughout their several games.
