The unexpected exclusivity announcement from gamescom 2014 worried developers as much as it worried most Tomb Raider fans. For those who are not up to date with this announcement, Microsoft teamed up with Square Enix to release Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusively for Xbox One.
While the exclusivity deal has an expiration date, it’s still uncertain if an when the game will be released on PlayStation 4. Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida told CVG that he’s not sure if Rise of the Tomb Raider will be coming to PlayStation 4, and he was surprised about the announcement like everyone else.
“It’s very interesting the way Phil Spencer said, what we are saying is, in holiday 2015 Tomb Raider is exclusive to Xbox. So it’s open to interpretation. But still, we didn’t anticipate something like this would happen.” he said.
“That question has to be asked to Square Enix and Microsoft. I hope the game will come out eventually on PS4. But how can I tell? Other than that cryptic message by Phil Spencer.” Yoshida continued.
Will Rise of the Tomb Raider eventually be released on PlayStation 4? We’ll just have to wait and see.
