Blizzard Decided About Post Launch Support For Diablo 3 on Consoles. Confirms PS4 and XO Versions Will Be Updated

John Hight, Production Director at Blizzard Entertainment, has confirmed in a post on the PlayStation Blog that the PS4 version of Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition will be supported with patches after release, similar to the PC version.
One month ago, fans of the game who intended to buy it on current-gen consoles we’re furious and started canceling their pre-orders when they found out that Blizzard wasn’t sure if they were going to patch in new content for the console versions after launch. This is what they had to say back then: (GameSpot)
“We’re still working out all the details regarding if and how Ultimate Evil Edition will be supported post-launch,” a Blizzard community manager said on the game’s official forums. “(e.g. will we patch the game after it ships? if yes, should we only patch to fix bugs and address critical game issues, or should we patch in new content as well? at what frequency should we patch?), so we don’t have an answer for you right now.”
Today it seems like Blizzard made up their mind and will offer updates in the future for the PS4 version of Diablo 3. John Hight declared the following on the PlayStation Blog:
One more cool piece of news for PS4 players: the next-gen console architecture makes it much easier for us to offer ongoing patch support for the PS4 version of the Ultimate Evil Edition. This means that as we continue to patch the game on PC, we’ll now be able to roll out related patch content, as appropriate, on PS4 as well. It’ll take some additional time beyond the PC patch rollout, but we’ll get them to you as quickly as possible.
Knowing this, are you now more inclined to buy the game? Let us know in the comment section below.
Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition releases this 19th of August on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
UPDATE: It was also confirmed that the Xbox One version of Diablo 3 will be kept up to date with patches:
Hold on to your rare helms, because Blizzard just announced that future patches forDiablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition on Xbox One will mirror the patches seen on the PC version of the game. This means that the PC version’s new 2.1 patch will shortly follow on Xbox One.
“When we started on this adventure, we thought we’d never be able to do updates on the console side in the same way we do with the PC. This allows us to be more responsive to our customers. Our goal is to eventually make these updates simultaneous.”
This kind of patching is possible now because the Xbox One is powerful enough to handle large-form patches, and can update games in the background. And with an increasing number of gamers fully connected to the Internet, Blizzard is comfortable pushing these large patches online.
