2K Games has announced Battleborn, a new first person shooter battle arena game that pits players against mobs of enemies and offers quick player progression, giving a somewhat different spin on the MOBA genre. Gearbox Software, the makers of the Borderlands series, will be developing this new IP for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and it will once again bring a stylistic approach to a first person perspective.
The story involves several heroes brought from all around the universe, all with the goal of battling a new threat to save the last star in the universe from the brink of destruction. Gearbox will have plenty of liberties to introduce several stylistic heroes, as some of the confirmed heroes already range from a swift, bow-wielding elven warrior to a gatling gun-toting strongman. Each hero is supposed to have their own unique feel and offer a range of abilities to make them different than the next.
The game will host a cooperative campaign for up to five players, as well as multiplayer modes like the 5 vs 5 Incursion, which combines the team based strategies of popular MOBA’s like League of Legends with unique first person gameplay. Gearbox Software has prepared a great little announcement trailer that gives us a taste of what to expect from the game’s unique visual style.
According to the game’s official Facebook page, the game is due next year, though no official release date has been set as of yet. For more information, feel free to visit the game’s official website.
