Ever wanted to try a virtual reality headset but didn’t have the opportunity or the high-tech secret laboratory behind your closet? Enter Google ‘Cardboard’!
With only $2 worth of materials (which you can buy at any hardware store) and a smartphone which runs on android 4.1 or higher you can now experience virtual reality. First, you need the design files from Google. Then, you go shopping for the materials, assemble them together, insert your smartphone into the designed slot on the other side of the optical lenses and you got yourself a cheap version of mobile-only Oculus Rift! You’ll also need to download the Cardboard app to checkout some VR demos.
“By making it easy and inexpensive to experiment with VR, we hope to encourage developers to build the next generation of immersive digital experiences and make them available to everyone.” says the team behind the project. ”We want everyone to experience virtual reality in a simple, fun, and inexpensive way.”
