Bohemia Interactive donates profits from Arma 3: Karts to Red Cross

Arma 3 DLC raises about $50,000 for Czech Red Cross.

Arma 3 DLC raises about $50,000 for Czech Red Cross.

Today the folks over at Bohemia Interactive announced that they have made a massive donation to the Czech Red Cross. This donation comes in the form of one million Czech Koruna (roughly equal to $50,000 USD), which was generated from the Arma 3 Karts DLC (downloadable content) that they released a month ago.

DLC can be seen as both good and bad by a player base. After all, those who do own the DLC typically have some advantage over those who do not, or they simply cannot play with those who do not any longer. Bohemia Interactive prepared a solution to combat these issues in Arma 3, however, by making all DLC content available to all owners of the game. There are a few restrictions on those who haven’t purchased the DLC, but this allows all players to be able to play together.

This is where the Karts DLC comes in. This was the first bit of DLC to launch under the concept. Upon revealing their plans for the content that had initially started off as a mere April Fools joke, they went on to announce that a portion of the proceeds would be donated to the Czech Red Cross, a promise that they have made good on today.

Jay Crowe, Arma 3’s Creative Director, stated, “Alongside helping us to evaluate Arma 3’s new approach to DLC, with the backing of our community, Arma 3 Karts has managed to raise money for a great cause. A big thanks to our players, both for their support and their valuable feedback, which we’ll use to refine our implementation. Overall, we’re positive about the preliminary results and responses, which seems to benefit Arma 3 players and help sustain Arma 3 development.”
