Aonuma hints at multiplayer in Zelda for Wii U

Zelda Wii U

With Nintendo and Tecmo Koei focused on Hyrule Warriors, which releases on September 26 for the Wii U, Eiji Aonuma recently spoke with Game Informer and let out a little hint at multiplayer functionality in the next Legend of Zelda game.

“The two-player functionality of Hyrule Warriors is actually something that has traditionally been done in the Dynasty Warriors series, but they’ve changed because of the hardware and the second screen on your GamePad,” he said. “Instead of having a splitscreen on the television, you have one-player playing on the television and one on the GamePad.

“When I was talking back about making Zelda more than just a single-player experience? That’s something you will see in the future, maybe next year.”

Who knows if that could be alluding to full-on multiplayer or some form of co-op but surely we’ll hear more about it in the coming months. That being said, would you like to see some type of MP mode added to the new Zelda?

I’ll anxiously await next year’s E3 for this game to take center stage for Nintendo.
