During it’s WWDC 14 keynote today, Apple also officially revealed iOS 8.

Double tapping the Home Button will let you communicate with Favorite people, so it makes it easier to call then, text them or use Face Time.

On the iPad, the demo showed the Mail app, where the app can extract a date from an email, such as a message with an appointment, and it can add it to your calendar. You can mark messages as unread with a quick flick from right to left now. If you keep swiping all the way to the left, you’ll active quick-delete.

For the keyboard, you can now get suggestions based on what you’re typing, but if someone texts you, like say “Do you want to go to dinner or a movie?” the suggested answers on your keyboard will say “dinner” and “movie”.

Various languages are also included in the keyboard functionality. You can name messaging threads, you can opt to leave it and you can add or remove people. You can share locations as well. You can also use Tap to Talk. You just hold down on the icon, and swipe up to send it. iMessages lets you send audio and video messages as well. You can also use the Do Not Disturb switch to mute a message thread. In the thread, you can see all of the photos in the message, but there’s a separate section where you can just look at photos only. The audio message it an actual audio file. For the video, you’ll use the front camera and you can send a vid.
Simply taking the phone to your ear, you can listen to a message and also reply to one via audio. Lowering the phone sends the message out.

The coolest part of the audio and video message sent within an iMessage, is that they can self-destruct, just like on Snapchat, if you turn that feature on.

iCloud Drive can be opened and you can grab docs or files from the drive that you have synced to your Apple devices, and even on Windows. Apple also confirmed the rumored health app with Health Kit. This app will give you information from your fitness tracker, as well as give your health information, with a partnership with the Mayo Clinic.

Family Sharing was also addressed during the keynote. You can share photos, calendars, reminder lists with family members using iOS or Mac devices. You can also now finally use the apps purchased by your family, with up to six family members, so long as the same credit card is used. If a child tries to purchase an app, you get a message (as a parent) on your own device asking for permission.

For Photos, the app will now let you get access to all of your photos on all of your devices. It can access more photos on the cloud than it can physically save on each device. You can also use smart editing to tweak your photos from the device. You can manually edit your photos, but iOS 8 can edit them for you to maximize results. If you click on Favorite for a photo, it will then show up on other devices.

Shazam song recognition will also be available, and you can activate Siri by just saying “Hey Siri”, so you don’t have to hold the Home Button. Developers will also now be able to make short videos to preview their apps, while a new service that is in beta, called TestFlight is also coming. This will let developers invite users to beta test their upcoming apps. App bundles will also be possible, which will be great for sales.

Apple also announced the capability for apps to talk to each other, while widgets are finally coming to iOS. You can pull up widgets via the Notification Center. Apps can essentially include widget functionality, so when you download an app, iOS 8 will let you know if a widget is available.
