Nintendo plans a public tournament at Super Smash Invitational
With the anticipation for the latest installment of the Super Smash Bros. Series continuing to build, Nintendo doesn’t seem to be wasting any time in giving fans a chance to see the game in action. With all the spectacle that Smash Bros fans have come to expect. On June 10, during the E3 expo in Los Angeles, Nintendo is putting together the first public Super Smash Bros tournament. The Super Smash Bros Invitational as they are calling will not only be a demonstration of the game’s capabilities but also a celebration of fan culture surround the series and acknowledgement of the 16 selected competitors previously selected by Nintendo.
The event will take place at the NOKIA Plaza, 777 Chick Hearn Court in Los Angeles. Wristband distribution will begin at 9:30 A.M. All spectators must have a wristband in order to enter. 3,000 wristbands are available to the public on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. Fans are requested not to line up for said wristbands prior to Tuesday morning. Those who are able to get a wristband are free to leave the plaza and return at 2:30 P.M. When the doors open. The Invitational itself will not begin until 4 P.M.
There will also be a live stream on Twitch’s E3 channel and Nintendo’s Twitch channel to give fans around the world an opportunity to get in on the action. To top it all off, there will also be a cosplay contest. Whoever has the most impressive costume of any character in the Super Smash Bros roster may be selected for priority seating by the stage. Anyone planning on cosplaying should also keep in mind that since the event will be photographed and filmed, that your pictures may be featured on Twitch or Nintendo’s Youtube channel.
Both versions of the game are set to release later this year, the 3DS in the summer and the Wii U during the winter of 2014
