Nintendo skipping E3 briefing again, plans Smash Bros. tourney
Nintendo has announced that they are once again skipping the traditional E3 press conference, as they did last year.
Instead, Nintendo has opted to stream their Nintendo Digital Event on Tuesday, June 10 at 9 a.m. PT to showcase the games they will be demonstrating and announcing at E3 2014.
“We demonstrated last year that we are never afraid to reinvent a proven tactic or to break completely new ground if we believe it will provide the best experience for our fans, followers and partners,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president and chief operating officer. “So, whether you’re attending E3 in person or joining online, there’s an amazing lineup of games, experiences and events coming your way.”
In addition, Nintendo is also hosting a Super Smash Bros. Invitational tournament, which will be held at the Nokia Theater at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles for both the 3DS and Wii U versions. Fans will be able to watch the live stream online and 16 participants will be invited into the tournament. How they will be selected, will be announced at a later date.
The company will still of course, have its booth at E3, while a partnership with Best Buy will also put out demos of Smash Bros. at participating stores.
So what do you guys think? Is it smart or upsetting for Nintendo to avoid another media briefing this year?
