Remember the old 1990 Nintendo World Championship event? How about those rare NES cartridges that find their way onto eBay that come from that championship?
Well fear not, for those who don’t want to drop hundreds of dollars for those cartridges, as Nintendo is adding a Championship Mode, which in inspired by the event, onto the upcoming NES Remix 2 downloadable game for the Wii U.
The original Nintendo World Championship had players trying to achieve the highest cumulative scores possible, much like on the film The Wizard, using three games. This new mode will add a similar mechanism, but will update the three games and will use a revised scoring multiplier.
Super Mario Bros. will still be one of those three games, but will be joined by Dr. Mario and Super Mario Bros. 3. High scores can then be posted onto Miiverse and the first NES Remix game is required to play this new Championship Mode.
NES Remix 2, which is scheduled for an April 25 release, features challenges from a variety of NES games such as Metroid, Kid Icarus and Kirby’s Adventure. using modified stages and new elements.
