Pre-orders for the Oculus Rift 2 have opened.
This morning pre-orders were opened up by Oculus VR for their Rift Development Kit 2. This kit is a new headset and is an overall significant improvement over the original DevKit.
The new kit will utilize the Crystal Cove prototype that many people loved at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier in the year. Unfortunately for normal users, this is still the commercial version and isn’t intended for the public although anybody can purchase it. Also, for those wondering, “Crystal Cove” was simply the codename for the new DevKit, and the company isn’t changing the headset’s name.
Though the first version of the DevKit has been available for just about a year, it wasn’t created with consumers in mind. In short you weren’t able to plug it into your PC and jump right into a VR version of your favorite game. That said, many adopters were developers, programmers, and modders, so we had games such as Crysis, Team Fortress 2, and even The Legend of Zelda running on the headset, as well as other non-gaming related programs.
What are your thoughts on the new Oculus Rift?
