Next generation of “Archival” 300GB-1TB Blu-ray discs revealed by Sony

The next evolution of Sony’s Blu-ray format has been announced. On the new Archival Disc medium can be stored up to 1 TB on one disc over time.

On Sony’s official site, the producer said that the new Archival Disc Blu-rays will appear in summer of 2015 and the storage space will be around 300GB. Sony wants to improve the storage to 500GB and then to 1TB. The current Blu-rays offer 50GB of storage.

The Archival Disc Blu-rays is the result of a collaboration between Sony and Panasonic. The logo that you can see in the image above will appear on Archival Disc, and it will receive promotion from both parts, Sony and Panasonic.
