Wii and DS online gaming services to be discontinued worldwide in May
If you still enjoy playing your Nintendo Wii or Nintendo DS online, you better hurry up and get your fill. The company has announced that on May 20, 2014 the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection which served the original Wii and DS consoles will be shut off.
Not all services will be going, however. While it’s true that the online gaming service will be shut down the services that will keep working on the DS after the May event include the DSi Shop, DS Browser, and DSi Browser.
For those wondering that Wii users will get to keep enjoying, you’ll have Netflix, Hulu, the Wii Shop Channel, the Internet Channel, Pay & Play, and YouTube. It’s also been revealed that the newer Nintendo Network games (by newer we mean those that arrived around the time of the 3DS) as well as the ability to enjoy local multiplayer will stay available.
What are your thoughts on Nintendo’s decision to shut down the online gaming portions of the service?
