NeoGAF user Shinobi602, who is known to have very solid contacts across the gaming industry, shed some light on a Santa Monica’s new IP that got canceled, a project which was led by God of War III creator, Jonathan Hawkins.

Sad to hear Santa Monica’s new IP is canned. It sounded pretty darn good from what I was told. RIP, we hardly knew ye.

New IP was really unique, sci-fi…legitimately saddened at the news. Sorry to everyone involved, damn.

What’s worse is that it was set to be unveiled at E3. Something massive must have happened. : (

Apparently, the recent layoffs at the studio were caused by this cancellation. Shinobi602 also mentioned that the project involved Battlestar Galactica’s writer, but that the game assets are being preserved, so the plug isn’t completely pulled, we may see what this new IP is about some time in the future.

This kind of situations are always bad, not only because of exciting projects being canned, but because talented people lose their jobs as well. Here’s hope that they find a new home soon and get back on developing great titles!
