Atlus to once again become a registered company in Japan.
Some readers may recall that after Index Corporation, the parent company of Atlus, dissolved, Sega quickly bought the company up. These readers may not realize that, despite the brand name being utilized by the developers, Atlus was not a registered company in Japan as of a few years ago.
Sega has released an official statement (via Kotaku) that lets gamers know that this will no longer be the case. Atlus will once again become a registered company in Japan starting on April 1, 2014. In fact, Sega will be splitting their acquired company into two.
The first will be Atlus, which will continue to focus on creating (in this writer’s opinion) interesting titles. The second will be Index, which will be a solutions company.
What do you think of this move? Does it show that Sega is actually interested in Atlus as more than just a brand, as some readers may have feared?
