Team behind Zero Escape was unable to get a third game greenlit
We have bad news for those of us who enjoy the Zero Escape (9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors and Virtue’s Last Reward for those unaware) series. Kotaro Uchikoshi has made several Twitter posts stating that they were unable to get a third game greenlit at this time.
Uchikoshi starts off by thanking everybody for the messages of encouragement, then goes on to state, “Unfortunately it is difficult to realize ‘at this stage’.” Uchikoshi expands on this, stating that the Zero Escape games require a large budget, and that they need to convince the managers to back the idea.
Uchikoshi adds that the series is widely loved outside of Japan, which the managers realize, and that fact has a few wanting to make the game. Unfortunately, however, the series is in the red in Japan, so even though the team could state that the next game would definitely be in the black, they don’t have anything to back up the claims. As a result, the company refused to give them the green light.
Uchikoshi intends to try again in the future, but for now we shouldn’t be expecting a third Zero Escape anytime soon.
