FF XIV on PS4 enters first beta on February 22.
Some may recall that just last month Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XIV would be hitting Sony’s newest console on April 14. Today they’ve revealed that the beta for the console will begin soon, specifically on February 22.
The PlayStation 4 version of the game will include several enhancements from the PlayStation 3 version. In addition to looking better, it will utilize mouse and keyboard support, the Dualshock 4’s touchpad, and gamers will even be able to utilize remote play in order to enjoy the game on their Vitas if they wish.
For those wondering who will be able to access this beta, the answer is everybody with a PlayStation 4. If you have the new console you can enjoy the game through the betas, which will be broken up into two different phases. The first phase, which will run from February 22 to March 3, will contain a character wipe at the end.
If you read that and are thinking, “What’s the point in even playing if my character’s going to be wiped anyway?”, the answer is twofold. First you’ll be able to see if the game is something that is interesting enough for you. The second is that you could skip the first phase and just play in the second phase, which runs from April 4 through April 7 and will not contain a character wipe.
Finally, if you own the PlayStation 3 version of the game then on April 11 you’ll be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version completely free. For those wondering, this means you will no longer be able to play the game on your PS3 if you do upgrade unless you buy another copy of the game.
Will you be testing out the PS4 beta when it arrives?
