Assassin’s Creed IV: Freedom Cry DLC will be playable without the full game

Freedom Cry to be released as a standalone title.

Freedom Cry to be released as a standalone title.

Ubisoft has made a surprising announcement today. Starting on February 18, 2014, you will be able to play the Assassin’s Creed IV: Freedom Cry DLC without owning Black Flag.

This news, though surprising, is certainly good, as several gamers who are interested in the DLC itself but may not be able to afford (or just aren’t that interested in) Assassin’s Creed IV will be able to experience the story.

The standalone version of the DLC will arrive on February 18 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 and February 25 for PC. Freedom Cry will cost $15.

Do you believe Ubisoft is making a smart move by releasing this DLC as a standalone title?

Thanks, Kotaku.
