Nintendo denies smartphone mini-game rumor

We won't be seeing Nintendo mini-games on smartphones after all, according to Nintendo.

We won’t be seeing Nintendo mini-games on smartphones after all.

A rumor began yesterday, thanks to a report by a Japanese newspaper called Nikkei (you can read the gist of the report courtesy of our friends at Kotaku), that Nintendo would be releasing exclusive promotional trailers and even free mini-games on smartphones. This rumor, however, was quickly shot down, as today Nintendo has denied the rumor outright.

Said Nintendo, “Nikkei’s article contains information previously stated by Mr. Iwata during past press conferences, including statements which relate to Nintendo’s willingness to make use of smart devices to promote our products.  However during such past announcements Mr. Iwata has also stated that Nintendo’s intention is not to make Nintendo software available on smart devices and as such, we can confirm that there are no plans to offer mini-games on smartphone devices. ”

Mr. Iwata will be explaining how, exactly, they intend to utilize smart devices to promote their products later this week.

What are your thoughts on the rumor and how quickly it was shut down by Nintendo?

Thanks, Engadget.
